Two different resources that people confuse constantly. Fuel pellets are deuterium doped with helium-3, fed to the reactor by laser. Reaction mass is water — it is what actually gets thrown out the back to make thrust. Running out of either stops the ship, for different reasons.

Reaction mass drains far faster than fuel during a burn. A tank chart that only tracked fuel would say the ship was fine right up until it could not move.

A warship running independent spends most of its time doing freight, courier work, and favors. This is that half of the job.

Cargo runs are how the ship pays for the fuel in the other charts. The unglamorous half of the log is what funds the rest of it.

Reaction mass and fuel lead, because they always do. Read further down for the things that keep a crew functional rather than the ship: coffee, red kibble, scrubber cartridges, and one line item of mil-spec duct tape that has never once been the wrong answer.

Ship stores and crew stores are the same list. A crew that runs out of coffee makes worse decisions than a crew that runs out of almost anything else, and the galley log knows it.

Air comes from CO2 scrubbers and electrolysis, water from the recyclers, food mostly from stores rather than the small hydroponics setup. Whichever bar is shortest is the one that decides how long the ship can stay out.

Delta-v decides where the ship can go. Life support decides how long it can be there. The tighter of the two is the real range.
